Kenneth Gerald Jones is a 1993 graduate of the University of California at Los Angeles and a 1998 cum laude graduate of Seattle University School of Law. Mr. Jones has been with Bowles & Verna since he received his Juris Doctorate in 1998 becoming a Partner in 2006. Mr. Jones has extensive experience in construction, insurance, products liability and intellectual property litigation. He has developed particular expertise in reinsurance coverage matters concerning the London Market, as well as in public and private works construction disputes. Mr. Jones also has extensive experience handling various intellectual property disputes with particular expertise in trade secret, non-disclosure and non-compete matters.
Mr. Jones also provides a full range of on-site training for construction executives, management and personnel regarding a myriad of issues concerning the construction and insurance industries. He is also the editor of the firm's Construction Law Update. Mr. Jones is active in the Bowles & Verna Tech/IP International Law Practice Groups and has authored several articles relating to new economy and international law issues. He is currently a member of the American Bar Association (Section of Science and Technology, Litigation and Intellectual Property), the Computer and Technology Law Association and the Contra Costa Bar Association.
Mr. Jones' most recent litigation accomplishments and experience includes:
- Obtained a defense verdict on behalf of Certain London Market Reinsurers in a $15 million reinsurance lawsuit advanced by a California based cedant.
- Currently representing a general contractor in a $40 million dispute arising out of the construction of high-end condominium project in Los Angeles.
- Currently representing a general contractor in a $20 million dollar dispute arising out of the construction of a high-end condominium project in Marina del Rey.
- Secured a $6 million settlement for a general contractor in a lawsuit against a multinational hotel owner.
- Obtained a $780,000 judgment for a Bay Area general contractor in a lawsuit against a subcontractor who abandoned a project.
- Obtained summary judgment on behalf of a multinational products manufacturer in a product defect lawsuit venued in New York.
- Obtained summary judgment on behalf of a multinational products manufacturer in a product defect lawsuit venued in Idaho.
- Secured a favorable settlement for a Korean toy manufacturer in a copyright infringement lawsuit in San Francisco, California.
- Secured a favorable settlement for an outdoor advertiser in a $10 plus million theft of trade secrets case.
- Currently representing a subcontractor in a $6.5 million dispute arising out of the construction of the GSA federal building in San Francisco.
- Currently representing a subcontractor in a $4 million dispute arising out of the renovation of the Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles.
Personal Information
Mr. Jones was born in Houston, Texas before moving to California at the tender age of nine. After attending De La Salle High School in Concord, he went to the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) were he received a bachelor degree in Political Science. While at UCLA he played football for the Bruins for two seasons and served as the president of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity for one year. In 1995, he married Sandy Kick, a second grade teacher at Happy Valley Elementary School in the Lafayette School District. Sandy graduated from Clayton Valley High School in Concord, and thereafter received her bachelor degree from Chico State University. Together, they have three children and reside in the East Bay.
