Biography
Melissa Dwivedi is an Associate Attorney at Bowles & Verna LLP whose practice focuses on business and commercial litigation, intellectual property, product liability, and subrogation-related matters. She represents businesses, manufacturers, and individuals in a wide range of disputes, including contract, partnership, trademark, copyright, and product liability matters.
Melissa assists clients through all phases of litigation, from case evaluation and discovery through motion practice, settlement negotiations, and trial preparation. Her experience includes drafting dispositive motions, managing complex discovery, and developing practical litigation strategies that advance clients' business objectives while controlling costs.
Melissa also advises clients on trademark and copyright matters and prosecutes trademark applications before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. She has recently secured federal registrations for word marks, logo marks, and composite marks across a variety of industries.
Her practice includes product liability and subrogation-related litigation involving alleged product defects, fire losses, and significant property damage claims. She represents manufacturers in the investigation, defense, and resolution of complex claims, working with technical experts and insurance professionals to analyze causation, damages, and liability issues. Through strategic advocacy and negotiation, she has helped achieve favorable settlements in high-exposure property damage and product liability matters.
Before joining Bowles & Verna, Melissa gained experience in intellectual property law, assisting clients with trademark, copyright, and related commercial matters. During law school, she represented clients before administrative and judicial tribunals in Social Security and Clean Slate matters, obtaining favorable outcomes for all clients she represented. Prior to law school, she worked at a leading entertainment law firm, supporting the representation of major film and television talent and assisting with the review and administration of complex contractual agreements.
Melissa earned her Juris Doctor from the University of California College of the Law, San Francisco (formerly UC Hastings), where she received the CALI Excellence for the Future Award in Mediation, the Best Oral Argument Award, and an Honorable Mention for Best Legal Brief. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from the University of California, Berkeley, where she attended on a full merit scholarship.
As the first lawyer in her family, Melissa understands the importance of trust, communication, and strong advocacy. Outside the office, she enjoys learning about investing and the stock market from her self-described finance-nerd husband and spending time with her family. She can often be found cheering on her toddler at soccer practice and swim lessons. Melissa affectionately refers to her son as her "honorary J.D." because he was born while she was attending law school and accompanied her throughout her journey to becoming an attorney. He even joined her on stage at commencement, where mother and son were hooded together in celebration of that achievement.
