Did a helicopter crash result in injury or worse?

On Behalf of | May 20, 2025 | Aviation Accidents

The aviation industry sees more crashes and other incidents than people realize. While incidents involving commercial flights tend to make the news, partly because many people may be injured or killed, small-scale incidents involving private flights and smaller aircraft generally don’t get a lot of media coverage unless a well-known passenger is aboard.

The vast majority of aviation incidents involved smaller airplanes or helicopters. Helicopters are particularly hazardous. While they are maneuverable and efficient, they are also particularly dangerous.

Businesses may offer helicopter flights for tourists and for photographers hoping to capture aerial shots. In some cases, what should be a pleasurable or productive flight turns into a major incident with significant consequences.

Helicopter crashes are surprisingly common

Fatalities and injuries related to helicopters are among the most common incidents reported in the aviation sector. California sees more of these than any other state.

When looking at crashes involving helicopters between 2007 and 2016, California had the highest number of crashes, with 177 incidents. Texas took second place with 164, while Florida had 104 crashes during the same time frame.

In some cases, issues while flying can lead to tragic consequences. Other times, challenges when taking off or landing could result in significant injuries for the passengers. In some cases, people can even make accidental contact with the rotating blades of the helicopter.

Those involved in aviation accidents related to helicopters may need help pursuing justice afterward. Having experienced legal guidance can help people pursue compensation and hold the right party or parties accountable for their medical costs, lost wages and other expenses and damages.
